Brother Ron Harris was born in Norman, OK in 1938 where his father was a professor and ultimately dean of pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma. Ron’s family moved to Grandview in 1946
where he graduated from high school and subsequently enrolled in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering in 1961 and immediately began a two-year tour on active duty in the ordnance branch of the U.S. Army as a 2d Lieutenant. He received his commission through ROTC and was recognized as a distinguished military graduate.
Upon discharge, Ron was employed by Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati and during this time he earned an MBA from the University of Cincinnati. The focus of his career in business has been the food industry, his last position being Executive Vice President, Research and Development, Nabisco, Inc. During his career, Ron led teams that developed several products, including Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing and DiGiorno Pizza. Brother Harris’ past civic contributions include President of the Chamber of Commerce and two-term Councilman in Richardson, TX. Ron is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at OSU.
Ron was initiated into the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Kappa Sigma in the spring of 1957. Since that time, his contributions to the chapter have been legion, both as an active and alumni. Ron served as Grand Master in 1959-60 and Grand Scribe in 1958-59. He is currently a member of the House Company and a solicitor of the ongoing “Rise to the Challenge” campaign, to which he has been a generous contributor. He also served as a member of the HOF Selection Committee from its inception through 2020.
Ron, recently widowed, has two children, five grandchildren, one step-daughter, and two step-grandchildren
